Movies of Tomorrow....Tooodaaaay!!!!

I’ve been so busy I haven’t been able to get anywhere near the internet, but hey I’ve managed to get 3 seconds of time to put together this blog.

Sa-da-kO is going well and the video is coming along nicely we filmed some extra footage last Sunday and there is a few more ides we have to go in there, I’ve got a load of pictures to upload but I want to save them for next week, by then I will have a bit more solid news and I’ll be able to give you an idea of the release date, all I can say is that it is starting to shape up pretty well.

So what do I talk about?

As well as being exited about all the developments within Sa-da-kO, Were all pretty excited about a lot of cinema releases coming up.

Tron legacy or T2on
Being a child of the 80’s I personally loved the feel of the original movie, it seems the new film as adopted the slick neon on black colour scheme (a look I wanted to have in our very own Aku Studios) and brought it straight to 2010. If you haven’t seen the original you haven’t experienced the 80s, I think it’s time to wipe the dust off the space invaders machine and put on the Goonies cos God dam it this looks good!!

Avatar
Anyone who has been to my house has probably seen my collection of Aliens figures, Memorabilia and DVDs and also probably knows I’m crazy about a lot of James Cameron’s Sci-fi work, Not that the plot or scripts have anything to do with it but mainly because the films he works on have a style all of their own.
Well jimmy’s back and this time he back doing what he does best, if you’ve not heard of this film it defiantly has to be on your “must see” list.

Remakes
Too like a remake or to not like a remake that is the question, There is a lot coming our way next year 2 in particular are either going to piss me off or I’m going to love them more than the original, but let’s be honest its more likely going to be the latter. The 2 films I’m talking about are of course, Clive Barkers Hellraiser & Wes Cravens Nightmare on Elm Street.

Only time will tell but I can never get my head round why people would revisit a franchise like these unless they feel they can offer something more and not something else, suppose they could always pop Sa-da-kO on the Original Soundtrack!!

But hey what do I know, and I did kinda like Rob Zombies Halloween, anyway I’m off re-paint the Mona Lisa and rebuild the pyramids because they’re getting a bit old.
Until next time my friends.

Sa-da-Ko ago-go!!

Picture the scene…
Its 12 noon in a sleepy sea side town in the North West, the old folks have bought ice creams and are enjoying the sun, then from out of nowhere, a van appears and the silence is shattered by the sound of molten metal!!!!
We have overtaken a nightclub decked out like a ski lodge for the afternoon, and we are here to make a noise!!.

Moments later the slavering horde appears, 60 metal hungry monsters all there to be part of something........ Something horrible!!

As you may have guessed already I’m talking about the video shoot for the song “red” (or aka) from the album Zero one, after months of planning filming began at around 12:20 on Saturday the 8th Aug, we arrived in full attire and set the stage for what has been for me the highlight of this year’s work with Sa-da-kO.

Once all the release forms had been filled in and the liability forms had been scribed we pretty much let the guys rip each other to bits while we rocked out the only way we know how.

It was a day that was filled with alcohol, lots of hellyeahs and brutal energy that couldn’t have been created without the help of the Sa-da-kO brood. We met a lot of awesome people and had a lot of fun and just wanted to say again a big thanx from all us to all of our new friends and old ones who appeared on the day.

I’ve put a load more pictures on the facebook fan page and of course I will keep you all updated on the filming as we go on.

Hellyeah

Marketing a Metal Band

Different bands have different ways of coming up with promotional strategies. Many bands take a look at how their favorite successful band is promoting itself... then borrow some of those tactics to apply to their own marketing campaign.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's perfectly acceptable to model the steps others have taken to move up the ladder.
However, you do run the risk of blending in with the mass of bands trying to get ahead.

SlipKnot

Mushroom Head

To stand out, you must take a fresh approach and do something different from what everyone else is doing. But you don't have to reinvent the wheel. In fact, I suggest that you still borrow successful marketing techniques -- only you borrow them from non-music fields. Good ideas are everywhere. Sometimes, the best ones are not in the obvious places.

Here's an example. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is one of the biggest and most successful rental car companies. Enterprise became successful because it catered to a specific niche within the industry -- insurance replacement vehicles. If you're involved in an accident or your car goes into the shop, you need a rental car to drive until yours is fixed. And that's the type of rental upon which Enterprise built its empire.

So what high-tech marketing technique do you think Enterprise uses to get that business? The answer: donuts. That's right, employees from local branches regularly visit repair shops in their area and bring free donuts for the shop workers. It's simple, it's cheap and it keeps Enterprise at the top of the list when repair shop customers need rental cars.

Ok Donuts arnt the most metal of all items but you get the idea tho, so from now on, be on the lookout for marketing ideas from any and all sources -- hair salons, dentists, dance troupes, fast food joints, plumbers, you name it.

Looking at the music industry for new ideas is fine. But don't overlook the wealth of ideas you can borrow from other industries as well.

Sa-da-kO Music Video

To say that we are a bit exited at the moment at camp Sa-da-kO is a complete bloody understatement, for the past 3 months Sa-da-kO has reached the point where all the planning and prep work is really begin to pay off.

So we have reach our first land mark, the album is well in mid flow and the recording is shaping to be one of the strongest things I’ve done so far, I had to research my ass off and basically studied recording & production techniques from the likes of Andy Sneap, Colin Richardson and Terry Date via Andy Sneaps forum site. The site is a great resource for learning production especially tips on producing metal bands etc check it out!!

We had the initial demo of “rEd” played on a local radio station as part of a studio promotion on Saturday, which was greatly received and this Saturday we start filming the “rEd” music video. We have posted groups give out flyers and basically pimped ourselves to the max to get as many people down as possible to be extras in the video, at the last count the Facebook page was around the 120 mark.

If you live locally to the North West and you would like to be a part of this get down to Club Lodge, West St, Southport between 12-3pm on Saturday the 8th. We will be filming full band shots which will act as cut away scenes and the vast majority of the video will be filmed on the locations a posted a few months ago in all the blogs.

We’ve been thinking of a few album titles recently and a few ideas came across well, however finally after a good few bits of dialogue we came to the conclusion that the title of the album will be called “Zero one” which I kind of like as it’s a nod to several things we’ve done in the past:

1) Jim is aka Zero on versus other projects, Zero + 1 (sIMo) = Sa-da-kO

2) Sa-da-ko is a girl’s name in Japan so actually getting Sa-da-kO as a domain name is quite difficult so most of our sites can be found by adding the 01 to the name (try it today kids)

3) This is the second recording we’ve done as a band the first release under Aku Media our home grown label so this would make zero one literally Aku-01 as a Sku/catalogue number.
So there are a few fun facts for your kids to chew on,

I’ll leave you for now with a quick sketch of how the album may look and a very, very old music video we made oursevles (sheeeesh!), all going well we should see you Saturday, if not ill post some photos on here and on some of the other sites so you can a glimpse of how it went down.

See you in a bit……
